  • Condition: This original movie poster exhibits rich colors and detailed images on a background generally free of any significant flaws. The one flaw in the image of any consequence is minor loss of color at the center of the poster from wear, resulting in small section (1/4") of white. There are pin holes in the corners and a 1" tear at the top edge to the left of center. There is general light soiling around the border areas, with a bit more at the bottom left edge below the words "A WALTER". There is a tiny tear at the bottom edge center. There is a 1" scrap to the left of the chin of Paul Robeson in the green area. There is minor loss of color along the one horizontal Fold line. There is writing on the reverse but it does not bleed through to the front of the poster. There is no tape or tape residue and no loss of paper. The poster is on medium stock and has a low to medium gloss. It still maintains an overall sharp and colorful appearance. Please review the photos carefully.

    This is the Original (1sh) movie poster
    DARK SANDS, Style A.
    It was used by
    Record Pictures
    to promote this movie when it was released in 1938.  The movie and original movie posters were released in the UK in 1937, November.  It is not a reprint nor a reproduction.  The movie stars
    Paul Robeson, Princess Kouka
    , Henry Wilcoxon, Wallace Ford, John Laurie, and James Carew.  It was directed by Thornton Freeland.
    This unrestored movie poster is Folded and measures 22" x 28", known as a "Half Sheet".
    Most original movie posters issued pre-1985 are Folded.  This is not considered a flaw or a defect.
    This original movie poster is graded C7 Fine/Very Fine.
    Original movie posters are graded as follows from the top down: C10 (Mint), C9 (Near Mint), C8 (Very Fine), C7 (Fine/Very Fine), C6 (Fine or Very Good), C5 (Good to Very Good), C4 (Good), etc.    Overall, this original movie poster can be framed and displayed as is with excellent results.  A majority of the flaws - tears - soiling - occur along the poster's edges/borders which can be alleviated with proper and insightful framing.  The one flaw of any significance that is in the image is the loss of color (1/4") at the center of the poster, occurring from wear/folding.  This flaw is not overly obtrusive when viewing the poster from a relatively short distance.  That said, the poster could be restored which would alleviate this 1/4" wear patch at the center and all of the other minor flaws.  We believe that the cost of restoration would be more than recouped in the increase in value of a restored
