    Description

United Artists Original U.S. One-Sheet Poster (27x41) Linen Backed Very Fine Condition
Original U.S. One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Alexander Korda historical classic, THE PRIVATE LIFE OF HENRY VIII (1933) starring Charles Laughton and as Henry's last five wives: Merle Oberon, Wendy Barrie, Elsa Lanchester, Binnie Barnes, and Everley Gregg. This early talkie begins with the execution of his second wife, Anne Boleyn, who was unable to provide the king a male heir. Charles Laughton, only 34-years-old at the time, gives one of the best performances of his life - lively, funny, energetic, and yet oftentimes lonely and hurt. He deservedly received the Academy Award for Best Actor and the film was nominated for Best Picture. Hungarian-born Korda made many wonderful films about European history and culture in which Laughton played three of his best characters - Henry VIII, the artist Rembrandt, and Roman Emperor Claudius. Laughton's real life wife, Elsa Lanchester, gives a wonderful performance as the daffy yet deft Anne of Cleves, and the comic chemistry between the two is quite funny and delightful. This U.S. one sheet is one of the liveliest U.S. posters from the early 1930s. In beautiful condition, on linen. MovieArt Austin guarantees that this poster is an authentic U.S. poster for this film. MovieArt Austin does not sell reproductions.
