STREET SCENE - 1931 WINDOW CARD POSTER - KING VIDOR dir. - RARE STONE LITHOGRAPH - PRE-CODEVintage original 14 x 22″ (35 x 55 cm.) window card poster, USA. Sylvia Sidney, William Collier, Estelle Taylor, David Landau, Beulah Bondi, dir: King Vidor; Samuel Goldwyn.
Brilliant early pre-code film based on the Elmer Rice play (Pulitzer Prize, 1929), featuring much of the Broadway cast and with a famous Alfred Newman jazz theme (used in numerous later films). The atmosphere of the film captures the tense and stifling feel of New York City tenement dweller in the heat of summer during the early days of the Great Depression. The story explores the daily lives and problems facing the working class of the big city, and did not stay away from frank depictions of sex, violence and use of language. This film certainly would not have received an approval for distribution with the coming of the enforcement of the Production Code a few short years later.
Poster features the romance between Rose (Sidney) and Sam (Collier) and the scene where the father, Frank (Landau), shoots a man. This is an extremely rare poster. It shows some dust shadowing in the borders, a bottom-right corner bend, corner bumps, a replaced bottom-left corner with paper tape on the reverse, and some small tears in the left and right borders, but looks very nice, VERY GOOD+.
Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
