Tarzan the Ape Man 1932 Trolley Card Paramount Theatre Oakland, California. Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS Priority Mail. Tarzan the Ape Man (MGM, 1932).Silk Screen Trolley Card (21" X 27").
Johnny Weissmuller, a twenty-eight year old Olympic gold medalist, made his debut as Tarzan in this lavish production. It was also was the first pairing of Weissmuller with the lovely Maureen O'Sullivan in the roles that they would be remembered by for the rest of their lives. Although W.S. Van Dyke's lavish film was made and distributed by MGM, this trolley card serves as an advertisement for a local Paramount theater. A bold design, this silk screen card has pinholes in the corners, a chip in the lower right corner, and mild staining into the interior. Fine/Very Fine. Tarzan the Ape Man was one of the last films screened at the Paramount theatre, as the theatre was intended to be. The theatre was built to compete with the Fox Oakland and construction was completed December 16, 1931. In June 1932 the Paramount closed, unable to meet operating expenses of more than ,000 per week in 1932 dollars! Competing with Paramount was theFox Oakland theater, which had opened in 1928. The Paramount stayed closed for nearly a year. The days when movie theaters could support not just the showing of movies, but entire orchestras, stage shows, and uniformed attendants, were over, just as the Paramount was being completed. One style of the one sheet for Tarzan the Ape Man was auctioned in 2013 for ,725 and a different style was auctioned in 2015 for ,650! This is your chance to get a striking U.S. poster for the original 1932 movie at a fraction of the cost!
