  • Condition: This original movie poster is not only in exceptional condition but is linen backed, thereby facilitating immediate display. The few flaws that exist are not obtrusive to the image. There are slight "ghost" marks/lines from where the poster used to be folded, but these have significantly faded and are to a degree "soaked" up by the richness of colors. There are intermittent tiny dark spots throughout the poster which may be a production flaw. And there is a small smudge on the top left corner border. There are no pin holes, no tape or tape residue, no loss of paper or color except for minor trimming of the border (.25" total) to accommodate the linen backing. There are no tears and the edges are excellent with the poster size extending to 29.25" x 43" with the linen backing. There is normal minor fraying of the linen backing along the edges, which is not a flaw. The poster's colors are strikingly deep and rich and the definition superb. Please review the photos carefully.

    .   It was issued when the movie was released by
    MGM
    in 1937 to promote the film.  This is not a reprint nor a reproduction.  The movie stars
    Spencer Tracy, Luise Rainer
    , Charley Grapewin, Janet Beecher, Eddie Quillan, Victor Varconi, and Oscar O'Shea.  It was directed by Frank Borzage.
    It is a partially restored movie poster measuring 27.25" x 40.75.
    It had been Folded but is now linen backed
    and thus rolled.  Most original movie posters pre 1985 are Folded.  This is not considered a flaw.
    This original movie poster is graded C8.5, Very Fine to Near Mint.
    This is the grade after restoration.  Prior to restoration, the poster was graded a C8.   After restoration, we believe the poster is a C9, Near mint condition grade, but general guidelines limit restored original movie posters to a high grade of C8.5. We respect that guideline.
    Original movie posters are graded, from the top down, as:  C10 (Mint), C9 (Near Mint), C8 (Very Fine or Excellent), C7 (Fine to Very Fine), C6 (Fine or Very Good), C5 (Good to Very Good), etc.  It is difficult to find any original movie posters pre 1985 in C10 (Mint) condition.  The C8.5 condition of this poster coupled with the linen backing make this difficult-to-find 1937 original movie poster somewhat rare.  We found it difficult (we did not succeed) to locate any other original

    movie posters after a relatively extensive search.  In addition, the colors are extremely rich and the definition of the images is excellent.  The original fold marks are not overly obtrusive and have subsided since the linen backing of the poster.  A proper framing of the poster along with the linen backing will continue to minimize if not overcome any ghost marks from previous folds.  Displayed, this poster will certainly present a strong and memorable appearance.
    Given those circumstances, this poster has strong investment value and would be a great addition to any collector of old-time movie posters for investment purposes or for permanent addition to your collection.  Not to mention the movie has the iconic stars Spencer Tracy and Luise Rainer.
